So I think I've decided to finally treat myself and drop the coin on a new custom. Thinking of getting a funshape possibly a longboard, though that's not nearly as likely. Lord knows I can't paddle into slop waves quiet like I once could on small boards.

Just curious as to whom you all would recommend going to as far as shapers. Been reading a lot of good stuff about some of Stu Sharpes shapes. Kechele has an interesting looking shape also, but I can't really find much info about it.

Kinda wonder what alls out there. Haven't had a board made in ages.

If you like Stu Sharpe Shapes then go with it.  He is a great shaper to work with and easy to get a custom board just like you like it.  I agree when you go custom you work closely with a shaper you like you get a board you like.  Stu has never let me down.  Heading there this week to talk with him about another.

So many great shapers here....I was in Surfinista this morning and was looking at a nice Stu Sharpe board.  It was a 5'6" but it was basically a cut down longboard, looks like it had tons of float.  It was triple stringer with wooden tail block.  Very nice looking board.

there's a few nice boards from Stu in Surfinista to browse, but at least check out Mayo Surfboards... I have a couple customs and some others from Larry in different forms and flavors I've picked up along the way

good news is you have lots of choices and soon this thread will list them all (or you can search "shaper" in the forum and come up with several threads that already exist on this same topic)... good luck and share when it's done

Appreciate the info guys. Certainly have some shopping around to do. Being flat like this isn't helping any. Starting to get stir crazy.

Spoke with Larry Mayo for a bit this morning. Nice guy. Definitely has me leaning towards a single fin egg. Might go with a 2+1.

Any of you guys have some experience with this shape from him? Likes/Dislikes?

Ron Heavyside.......haven't heard that name for quite a while.  Still have one of his Nomad Surfboards he shaped for me for my first Costa Rica trip back in 1995.  I think "Burry" used to work in his shop in Gulf Breeze.

I have had a bunch of boards from Mayo including a couple singles, twins, quads  and even a 3 fin Bonzer.

Single fin shortboards are a breed all their own, I love them but they are not for everyone.  They can be very loose and squirrely but that makes them fun! You can shore things up a little with fin size and placement but they require you to learn to rely on your rails for hard turns.

Larry's singles are fantastic, as are his 2+1 but in my opinion Larry's magic is in his twins....a nice glassed on keel set up is pure magic.

Do The two one set up or better yet quad one set up.  you can play with diffrent fin sets and see what works for you in a lot of diffrent waves.

Personally, I would go with a 5 fin Bonzer egg. But That just me.  Then again I would love to get my hands on a Bruce fowler V8 Check out his boards . i think they would be very good for florida waves.

But you should stick with Mayo nice to keep it local.  My problem is to many boards to little cash.

Another conversation with Larry, and a payment made on a new board.

6'10" egg. Little wider and thicker than normal. He sold me on the single instead of the 2+1. Pretty stoked that he's hoping to have it done in only 3 weeks. I happened to fall into a great little spot in his work schedule. Looking forward to seeing the color on it. Says it's something newer that he's been doing by mixing several different colors up together that ages fantastically. Gotta have that high gloss finish on it too. Can't wait now.
