Been kickin around a little get away thats not too much $$$$ and fairly close, haven`t priced things out lately but seems prices have gone looney expensive.

Used to hit the Bahamas, then it was Costa, Mex maybe, Cali even?

Input appreciated, stories/pix too?

Cheap is a relative term.  Depends on what you consider cheap.

Cheap meaning best price... last I looked airfare to LA was around $500 ...

Airfares mostly........ Car/accommodations also factor in... great question

To me its all affordable.

Consideirng Central America west coast is where the surf is at right now, your Choices are, Mex, El Sal, Nica, CR, Panama.

I think Panama will get your cheapest flight, but the surf camps are a ways from PTY airport.

I like Nica because it is literred with Surf Camps that will pick you up at the airport and take you to a camp where there are multiple breaks up and down the beach. No car rental, just airport shuttle fee.

I am staying here next month:

Pretty reasonable, plus they have $35 a day for in room meal service and sticked fridge for all meals.  For me, its worth it and I consider that cheap because I just surf rather than procure food and cook it.

Friend of mine did ecuador for three weeks.  Camped on the beach and met locals to stay with.  Not my style at this age but he said it cut his cost down significantly.

If it were winter, I would hop the Ferry to the bahamas from FT Lauderdale, then hop islands in the bahmas until I found surf.  Or I would be in PR.

Cabo.

Look around. Some real cheap Hotel packages w/food and drinks. Airfare not bad.

Waves when on (which is often this time of year), outstanding.

Air fares have not been real favorable.  You can find San Diego on Southwest for a little over $300.  San José del Cabo, $270.

San Juan, PR $234 in August (apparently no such luck for Aguadilla or Mayagüez), Sint Maarten, $332.  (Google).

There are a few late-summer bargains to Shannon, Dublin, as welll as Oslo and Copenhagen.  $521-750.  Mullaghmore does seem to get wind waves in summer.

OBX doesn't seem great in summer, but at least they have a huge swell window.

Keep an eye on the forecast. Costa Rica is guaranteed and easy now that the highway system is great there. Plus, nobody goes there anymore, so it is like frontier land again although prices have increased, so what, the surf is great.

Baja Is very cheap right now. Lots of Drug related murders right now. Drug ganes are killing each other not Surfers.  Tourist are staying away. Cabo isa good bet this time of year. They have already had a couple of hurricains further south drive a nice south swell up to Baja.

IM mi if you waan di link to Jamaica! There are some other options in addition to Jamnesia, if you don't want to get grouped in with a heap of Canadian tourists. It has been going off for the past two weeks dung ya so and there is a forecast showing another two weeks of solid surf with light winds!!! Fun, uncrowded waves and amazing culture.

Here is a shot from my last trip down there a month ago:
