The opening page (housekeeping) isn't much, but the questionnaire itself is pretty intelligently designed, complete with pictures and opportunities for you to write comments or tell stories. It's by Dr. Chris Houser from the College of Geosciences at Texas A&M University in collaboration with Texas Sea Grant. and Dr. Rob Brander at the University of New South Wales (Sydney). It was a bad weekend at the beaches, seemingly mostly tourists. |

Done,,,,,,, kinda funny as a surfer we LOVE the high risk of rip current warnings, means more fun for us, no warning/no fun...
They sure can help with paddle-outs ------------------------- I've decided to accept the fact - I'll always be a big kid! |

I got interested in rips after getting used to super-convenient ones in Oregon that delivered you to the takeoff spot, almost paddle-free. Why did Florida require hard work for access to even mediocre waves? One short answer is our lack of headlands, big rocks, whatever. Another is that some of our beaches (Vero's weird South Beach, for example) have lots of rips, but they're only rarely hazardous. Cute little things. Getting whacked while in the impact zone is a big hazard. National Weather Service seems to be doing a good job of identifying bad beach days for non-beach people who tend to visit beaches on days like yesterday. The TV news coverage was not encouraging. Something like 500 lifeguard rescues from Flagler through Brevard, drownings, people sent to hospitals. |
