My best friend and surf buddy Billy C becomes Buoy C when he does that. He's just to polite and fussy in the line up. It pisses him off enough that he steps up his game.

Priority Buoy is my own nickname too. My main surf buddy catches a wave, paddles back out, does a circle around me, and catches another one before I do much.

If there's no drift, I think people use me like the OK signs at SI.

When there is a drift, I'm the HSD (High-Seas Drifter.)

But hey, no shame, I like to meditate, enjoy the ocean, catch my breath, and be kinda selective wave-wise. It may look like I never go for a wave, but that's not quite the case.

Well said. Just want to get the terms right and have a good thread. Seemed to work.

Nothing wrong with a "bobber" as long as they stay out of the way of people making efforts to catch waves. Had a crew of several newbies out at Spanny on Sunday that sat in a circle facing each other talking, laughing and having a good old time. Not paying attention to the waves and only paddling for the wave that practically hit them on the head. Rarely catching anything. No problem really except when they drifted into the zone some of us were actually trying to surf. Oh well it was a  holiday weekend.

Best Friend-

Once at playa negra after paddling back out after the ride of my life im hooting for this guy in position for a beautiful set wave, he pulls back at last second, i see he does it again. Simply its a little big for his liking but he paddles like he wants it.So my long story is that guy gave me 4 set waves in going off negra. He would be in position but he wouldnt take it and i was the only one to figure it out.

Best friend-never forgot him-he was from Boston

White haired dude on a bigger gun?

If yes, I surfed with him in Costa and Kauai two different years.

Don't be fooled... he rips. Guy next to me in Costa said he surfed with him at Cloud Break the year before. He's very selective, evidently a professor at MIT, and his thing is surf trips once a year.

Always sit near them, they take up room in the lineup but don't take up the waves = more waves for you. I'm the opposite, I get so ecited on a big day it's hard for me not to take the bait wave, then get causght inside. Costa has helped me with that, cause there, you can get in trouble taking the bait wave.
