So I am considering getting a fish for the what would be a LB day, days.

So do you take the volume of your normal board and have it put into a fish shape?

Quad or Twin, whats the pros and cons.

And, does anyone have one I could ride on a small day? (Dan)

Also, I believe I would want to go Ohare or Nielson on the retro or even an RC... or do you have any recommendations

Mayo... He shaped my favorite board (with twin keel bamboo glass ons), but you can't go wrong with any of those based on what I've heard from others

Talk to the shapers directly and see who you like in terms of working together to create a new custom fish... I'll be riding mine this morning at 6:24am

Whats your weight?  I use a FireWire baked potato and haven't touched my longboard ever since.  Im 235 so I'm on the 6'2 but it's 3in thick and 22.75 wide (I think)... 50+ liters of float, wide tail super easy paddle in and I sit out with the long boarders.  Paired it with future controllers.  Fun board in up to about shoulder high then I step to something else.  Just like buying a car, test drive a bunch of thigs if you can.

Why not have O'hare make you a 8'0 fun shape or something in that range? edit: The Lost Beanbag looks fun, Couch potatoe, baked potatoe, something in the starch family I guess.

Rode my BP last night because I didn't see any sets during my 60 second post-work drive check.

Was worried about that wide tail on the sets but it did me right on each one!

Only had it a few months but am coming around to thinking it's a great board!

Sneezetech, I have a 6'2" quad fish you could try out. It's got mad volume and will let you at least determine if you need to scale down or up in volume and length. I think you should be in the 5'10 to 6'2 length with about 34 to 35 L volume.

Firewire has a pretty handy volume calculator on their website to give you an idea of what you need in terms of volume. The volumes seem a bit conservative to me though.

Is a fish a 6'0" x 19" thruster with a 1" wide swallow tail?

Had to troll.

I'm getting a 5'7" OG Rich Pavel Twin Keel with a 12 1/4" wide swallow tail. That's a fish.

Quads go better on curvier tailed fish.  They work better in bumpy surf.

Keels are one of the most unique rides in surfing.  A love or hate type of thing. They hold long, clean lines and go fast.

I don't know of anyone local who can make a good keel.  Floridian shapers are just too far removed from the San Diegan source.  They don't have the placement #'s.

IMO keels go better in small lined up type log waves simply because the boards they are on usually have wider straighter tails.

Peelers: keel

combo swell or bumpy: quad
