Thanks for the good info all! Booty- I took off a semester to travel, and in the process spent a bit of time framing houses to save up.. That was probably THE BEST thing I could have done for my collegiate career. I have never been more motivated to finish my degree LOL! ------------------------- Neptune Beach Repressor |

artz is 110% right... start doing it on your own(not for the money). laying the foundation during college is critical- portfolio, internships, blogs, contributions- is very important. Did you work for your school newspaper and find journalistic stuff to do while on campus??? Did you ask to shoot the sports teams??? or write about them... luck comes to the prepared. No ones going to get hired in the journalism business if they dont have initiative. going back to the dorm and smoking a bowl doesnt get you an interview... ITS ALL ABOUT WHO YOU KNOW... my old photojournalism prof.(who is also a working photojournalist in south florida) got me my first interview.. 2 weeks later i was 'in'. It was 3 months before even receiving my Bachelors,, not trying to brag, im trying to say that degrees only a piece of the puzzle, and not even a key piece. I graduated from FAU with a journalism degree. found a job at a newspaper doing what i love not becuase Im a great journalist,, but becuase I met the right people and DID the right things during school to lay a foundation and meet the right people. ------------------------- The Dude Abides. |
