Will bleach damage my suits and other clothing? What household cleaners can you use to prevent dry rot, and mold damage to suits and fabric?

Healthful Home Mold and Bacteria Cleaner

Try this stuff. It got rid of mold on fabric for me (with a little elbow grease) without any damage. It's natural, smells good and is advertised not to have any harsh chemicals

I tried it......

TRISODIUM PHOSPHATE (TSP) solutions are great for cleaning mold, mildew, grease, etc. 1/2 cup TSP to 2 gal. warm water, 2 quarts household bleach for ''heavy duty cleaning'' or
1 cup TSP to 3 quarts warm water, 1 quart household bleach for ''extremely heavy duty cleaning''.

Leave your wetsuits to dry inside out, after a thorough rinsing, and never have that problem again.

I left a long sleeve top outside for about two weeks, paddled out and made it to the outside before I started to feel some stings....then more....then realized it was covered in red ants inside and out!

Dave is right. Make up a solution of Distilled White Vinegar with 3%Hydrogen Peroxide at a 1/1 ratio and soak it in a basin/ bucket. If that doesn't work use a solution of 1gal Distilled White Vinegar to 1 cup Borax. Disclaimer:  I used both solution on almost everything except wetsuits. Test the Borax solution before using it on the wetsuit material. Then, Let it soak the same way.

Best price source is Walmart (boo Walmart)they had Borax. The big box stores have 1.5 gal distilled white vinegar.

TSP is a caustic which might be a bit rough on your skin if you fail to get every bit rinsed out.

mold may seem only annoying, but we ll know can be dangerous also, my factory rafters were coated in a blanket of black fur, I had constant head aches. On one of my trips to Rhode Island I left Kurt Wilson with my pal Mario Frade for the summer, Mario had 2 giagantic dogs, Charles Manson and Slasher. The dogs had the breezeway as a sleeping quarters and this was where the wetsuits got left, the dogs saw them a great palces to lay.

The damp wetsuits got a fungus from the dogs and Kurt had his torso covered in microscopic water blisters that weeped constantly, it took about a year for it to go away, dog shampoo for wet eruption infection

I just looked up wetsuit cleaning and came up with some cleaners and shampoos for wetsuits. on Amazon. Might be able to purchas at a surf or dive shop all seem to be able to combat mold, All also say they help to restore the wetsuit.

all you need is some listerine. Fill your tub, or something large enough to hold your wetty, and then pour in a cup or so of listerine. Let it soak for an hour or so and then hang to dry, DO NOT rince the listerine out. Your wetty, and any other clothes, will be clean and fresh and free of mold and bacteria. White vinegar sort of works as well, but I(personally) can not stand the smell of vinegar. I like the fresh minty smell of listerine much better

Just a thought on the prevention side. I never rinse my wetsuit after a session (purely out of laziness), and I've never had mold on any wetsuit I've ever owned - thinking the salt does a good job at preventing it.
