The Smyrna Surf Club's contributions are among those documented in an exhibit on the rich history of surfing in the city now on display at the New Smyrna Beach Museum of History.
The surfing exhibit will be on display for three months at the museum. As for the old Smyrna Surf Club, Martin guessed there are about 10 members still active in the sport in the city. Dreggors, 66, said he still rides the local waves all the time. "It's like, we live in paradise here," he said LINK -------------------------

This post got me thinking of the old guy riding the rescue board at the inlet back in the 70’s and 80’s. He must have been well over 80 and no more than 5-4” tall. He wore what I called a ski buoy back in the 50’s. He was a mean nasty old cuss in the water but nice as could be on land. And that’s probably only because he wanted me to carry his board for him. He was an inlet fixture for years. I have always said I hope I’m just like him when I’m that age. I'm sure he's history now. Anybody remember him? |

I remember him , if that was the same old guy on a longboard , with a hat on that was attached to something, always complaining in the water about all the younger kids and that the parents should use birth control , real mean guy he would run ya right over if you got in his way..... oh the memories
