Different trip this time. Have two young daughters 3yr old and a 5 month. Want to take to CR and found good flight to Liberia over Christmas. Been many times but never in this context so have not paid attention to hotels that would work. Prefer beach front, pool, safe, nice place etc. Any notable suggestions?

The Guilded Iguana at Playa Guiones/ Nosara. clean, safe, great food, friendly folks, one block walk to awesome waves, have seen kids all over the place.

According to you...but then again, you are pretty stupid, so I expect nothing less.

In Tamarindo it will be busy season, but if you want right on the beach then the Tamarindo Diria. The wave breaks at higher tides right in front and lower tides at the rivermouth. Barcelo Langosta is okay, too, but as an all inclusive place might leave out other dining options. The other all-inclusive spots in that region do not have surf at their beaches. In Nosara, most every place is 200 yards from the sand due to community rules. Playa Grande and Negra have some great houses and cozy hotels, but it's more remote. Whereever you choose, book early as the well recommended places fill quickly. Just send me a note if you need help with reservations. ~Greg

Casa Romantica in Playa Guinones (Nosara). Walk to beach. Pool. Nice and private. Good breakfast each morning included.

Greg, If the Tamarindo Diria is near the surf, how os the RIU Guanacaste not? Or is this info the interent provides wrong? Tamarindo Diria: 35.7 miles West from the center of Guanacaste-Liberia RIU Guanacaste: 26.8 miles West from the center of Guanacaste-Liberia We love RIU's, my wfe hates CR but if we could stay at the RIU I could get her back there. How far is it truly from the surf? I dont want to go out of country and HAVE to drive 45 minutes to an hour+ eash way. I will send you a pm with more, we are looking to take the kids somwhere around Christmas too. Thanks,

The RIU is not in Tamarindo. It is located on a beach to the north of Playa Grande, and with offshore islands and the direction of the beach, it does not get surf more than shorebreak. Not only that, I will never suggest the RIU in Costa Rica because they destroyed acres of mangroves just to improve their beachfront view and was built illegally. Here is the article in the Tico Times - LINK

There are other luxury resorts on the beach in that area with waves within walking distance. Check out Cala Luna in Playa Langosta or Hacienda Pinilla in Avellanas, both have great waves nearby.
