I've been to Playa Guiones many times and I love that place. Several good places to eat, but hard to find unless you ask. I always stay at the Guilded Iguana, they are great there and the food rocks, walk to beach. If you want a local point, walk north of the main beach, across the rock, there is a path to Playa Palada. Just onthe south side is a left and a short right across from there. the left is better but needs a big swell and works a higher tides to avoid the rocks but fun and easy to paddle out to it. If you want a thumping wave, go south of Samara, south of Carillo to Carmaronal. Like Hermosa but not as closed out and POWERFUL surf mid tide incoming. You will need directions and cross one small stream (dry season). I'll be in the Central Pacific 7/26!! can't make up there this trip. Pura Vida

Right now I am seeing some deals on American Airlines from Miami for ~$335 RT and Jet Blue for ~$360-380 from Orlando. Spirit Air also flies from Ft. Lauderdale but they charge extra for carry on and checked bags so the price adds up. I've flown all 3 with no problems - yet. (sometimes I've gotten lucky too on AA agents not charging for boards on the way down)

I get my forecasts for Nosara from www.NosaraShack.com, a great group of local photographers who are NOT trying to sell off every square meter of land. And I've done forecasts for the north Pacific coast for the last 14 years so if you need help with planning just IM me or check out the site - www.CRsurf.com. As a licensed and insured travel agent in the US, I can reserve your SUV rental and hotels/houses.

Your wife will love the volcano area, probably will be dark and cloudy now, especially in the eve. Long drive around the lake. Hot springs will pay off. Ask the locals where the lava is coming down while you're there. Take off at dark to find the flow and you'll find an amazing sight and a 'party' w/other folks, mostly local.

LBLarry  After owning surf shops in Va Bch and Nosara for many, many years .... ol Harry was tired of the daily grind of retail. Trust me, he still has a finger in multi pies in both CR and Nic.....

LBLarry, Which shop(s) did harry own in VA beach?  Does he have one in Jax now?

I really enjoyed Guiones.  We flew into Liberia then caught a cab ($100 one way).  Surfed Guiones the whole time with a trip or two up to Osti.  Would certainly go back but will venture either further north or southern Costa next time.  You'll enjoy it.  If you're upstairs and have a balcony, keep your window or balcony door closed unless you want a bed full of monkies in the morning.

Ya know ... I am trying to remember the name of the Va Bch one. It was still plastered all over that jacked up 4x4 he use to wheel around in ..... damn, well they say the memory is the second thing to go & I do not remember what the first is!

No shop in Jax.

Anyway, I sent the ol timer a msg and will report back.
