After four weeks, x-rays showed mine had healed. I tried surfing and couldn't push myself up. I did a bunch of rehab and was surfing in Costa at week six. It wasn't full strength, but I managed. When it heals, try to find something that emulates surfboard rails and do push ups.

Did you get it fixed with plate and screws or just a cast?

No fixation so give it some time to heal. I seldom say this at work but listen to the ortho doc! Don't push it till it's healed. Maybe you can wear a brace when you first start surfing again.

Go slow and try riding a larger than normal board.....helps stability quit a bit....good luck and heal fast.

I had a distal radial fracture on my right hand in the last week of October. Had a metal plate and 5 screws put in. I didnt have insurance so was not able to go to PT. However, luckily I have a PHD friend who is in PT and showed me exercises and helped me out. My rotation palm up/down has gotten great. Bending downwards great too. Backwards is a bit stiff and not so great. I haven't surfed yet since I've been living in Vail for the winter. Will see how it goes in a few weeks when I come back to FL. I know doing a push up right now is real difficult so a little scared of how pushing up off the board will be. Biggest thing I thinked helped me was doing the PT exercises consistently. Plus using a squeeze device to gain stregnth, etc. Justin
