Sand transfer is a much more desirable approach when compared to dredge and fill. Great vid work as usual from the PureOcean guys. Today is last day to send in comments on the permit application, so move 'em out! I have a feeling there's going to be more ''discussion'' on the Mid Reach project, though. Stay tuned for further developments... |

Excellent vid, love it, thanks.
For the sake of accuracy in the article POTV, it should say Army Corps of Engineers instead of American Corps of Engineers. In the long run, I think sand transfer (pumping station) is more cost-effective. But that begs the question, would sand transfer create the same problem (covering up the reef)? ------------------------- That boy's got somethin' wrong with his medulla oblongata. |

Sand transfer would restore the natural flow, which would mean native sand on the beaches in the shadow of the port. But it''s much more profitable to do repeated dredge and fill. Plus, who likes that native sand when you can have grey or orange dirt put on your beach? (Maybe we could pick the color?) The Mid Reach is out of that shadow and essentially non-erosional (in terms of mean high water line). Sand transfer at port likely would have no effect on reef area. I'm willing to take my chances on restoring things to mimic the natural system. |
