I dunno if this is a repost but I'm posting it anyway.

Looks like they're trying to make it look like Juno or something.  The Surfboard Drop-off area is hilarious.  Hilarious at any break really but at Lake Worth... come on.  Also the "Shades Sails" and Promenade.  hahaha.  I can't imagine the local denizens of the pier bar appreciating anyof this

It probably isn't going to look like that since there's been issues with the funding. The Casino is coming along, looks good. Serious question: how is gambling legal there? Anyone know the plan for it?

Looks like the Boca Raton developer scum disease is slowly creeping north. And the casino's are popping up all over the eastern US now. Its a telltale sign that any city/county lobbying for it is broke.

It's not really going to be a casino, that's what the old building used to be
back in the day,,,,and the name stuck.

Here's what the building looked like in 1925, Which was an actual
casino, and bath house.... after the original burned down.

This one got destroyed in the 1947 hurricane, and the ugly two story one that they just took down got erected shortly after.
Gambling was outlawed then so it was never a casino, but I heard rumors of some high stakes card games going on in private rooms upstairs!

I'm sure they will have to come up with a new name, it's confusing to most people who haven't been here a while.
The new building will have retail space, stores, restaurants, bars, etc...

They were supposed to keep the outer walls of the building so it could still be a historic renovation,
but that went out the window and they took it all down because it was junk.

It is really two projects, the building and the beach(parking, greenspace, etc,,,)

Looks like they went way over budget, and the project got stripped down.

Renewable energy sources were the first to get whacked:

In december, the building was on schedule and they said it would be ready
for stores to move in next month(april).  Johnny Longboats restaurant will
be the anchor.  Plans to open in the fall.  Rumors are rent is WAY too high
and nobody else wants to commit to the space.  The city should probably
give some businesses a break for the first couple years until it grows but what do I know?

Now the rest of the renovation (everything except the building)
Looks like the city of LW missed the deadline to recieve 5 million from the county to do that.
Good thing the county let them slide. Otherwise there would be a nice shiny new building with a crappy old parking lot and dead trees
and patchy grass. Not to mention the disgusting bathrooms that are too scarey to go in.

It's been quite a mess but I think when it's all done, it will a very nice change,
and a nice place to visit, surf, eat, drink, shop.

Here's what the new building looks like, a revival of the original

Actually Johnny Longboats is out and Mulligans Beach House and Restaurant is in. Also its a typical mess with with tax payers ending paying for poor planning (whoops we forgot the turtle safe lighting  = $1 million goof) political BS - Vote for me because I will preserve this hysterical landmark, and on and on, But of course it will be a huge improvement for the actual building anyway.  The rest is a planner's dream and surfer and beach goers night mare. Pretty, not user friendly!

Thanks for all the info jwieland.  I just hope with all the renovations the lineup doesn't wind up looking like Juno Pier.  There's something to be said about how the crappy facilities kept just a moderate amount of surfers in the water.  (I won't really credit it to localism anymore, considering I think it's been toned down a bunch.  I hear more crap in the lineup at that newish PB sandbar).  For then 12 years I've been surfing, Juno has ALWAYS been out of control with people.  The only place i've seen more people in the water is NSB, SI & Jax Pier/Mayport Poles.  And at least those spots have a couple of different peaks and places to thin out.

Speaking of the bathrooms!  LOL!  I was at LW a month or two back when a chilly little north-swell was just sneaking in.  Unfortunately, the morning coffee & clifbar took effect too early and I was in mind to pull a Finster (not really) but I high-tailed to the "bathrooms."  I should have noticed that the police cruiser which is parked outside the bathrooms 90% of the time was missing...   I turn the corner and bam!  A guy taking full advantage of the lack of bathroom doors, beatin' it like it owed him money.

"WTF, buddy!"

Only at Lake Worth, I guess.  I ran out but there was no cop or parking meter patrol to tell.  Only a Korean guy getting a parking slip and  I told him as I walked by.

rent is way too high on everything that is built nowadays. Rents are too high for existing properties. A key component in the global marketplace is affordable housing for the workforce (as well as affordable real estate to house the business operations). The Government has been working to fight falling real estate prices when they actually need to fall to get to equilibrium. It's like fighting a waterfall with a fire hose. But then, there is the stupidity factor which may yet cause them to rise... if they can't lease out all that space (doubtful that they will), they can always rent out the parking lot to a car dealer...
