THE COCOA BEACH SURF MUSEUM is excited to announce the 2nd ANNUAL FLORIDA WOMEN OF THE WAVES WEEKEND. After last year's hugely successful events there has been an ongoing barrage of requests asking "when are you doing it in 2011?" Unable to repress the spirit of Florida's Women of the Waves we can only answer - All weekend long Friday September 30th to Sunday October 2nd.

One of the most common observations we receive about this event was how nice it was for the women to have the chance to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family on the beach and in the water, without the stress of a competition environment. This year we are taking the feedback to heart and doing the entire weekend focused on gathering Surfing's Sisterhood solely for the purpose of having fun.

We get it started Friday night, September 30th with a FREE Surf Movie starting at 7:30 PM. And once again we'll enjoy the hospitality of THE COCOA BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY community room for viewing this cinematic surfing production, courtesy of Ray Dickinson and his fine team of Library folks. As usual the Library's pop-corn machine will be churning out the best organic popcorn this side of Jetty Park, courtesy of the fine folks at SUNSEED CO-OP, where the Museum's original Curator and President Emeritus Sean O'Hare keeps us in the good stuff.

On Saturday morning, October 1st from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM we'll hold a LADIES SURFING SOCIAL. This will be on the beach (and in the surf!) behind the INTERNATIONAL PALMS RESORT (formerly Holiday Inn) in Cocoa Beach. This is a casual gathering of friends and family, with ladies of all ages on all types of boards enjoying the surf. This event is open to anyone who wants to come down and enjoy a nice day at the beach, whether you have been surfing for decades, or just feel like spending some time at the beach for a change. We'll be easy to find, just look for THE COCOA BEACH SURF MUSEUM pop-up tent, and lots of ladies having fun.

Saturday afternoon from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM we will have an SUP ADVENTURE PADDLE. This will be in the river at the Cocoa Beach Country Club Pavilion located off Tom Warriner Blvd and Minuteman Causeway (by the Cocoa Beach community pool).

Saturday night is our cook-out / Luau, also at the Cocoa Beach Country Club Pavilion, from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Along with the delicious food and complimentary soft drinks we'll have live surf music by The Aquanauts band making this well worth the modest price of $5.00 for the meal ticket. Alcoholic beverages are permitted (BYOB - no glass), but please indulge with respectful moderation as there will be families and minors attending.

The weekend ends in true surfing fashion with an informal Sunday Morning Surf Session, location to be determined. In this casual atmosphere you might find yourself sharing the waves with women ranging from legendary heroes to stoked little grom-ettes, from just a few streets away, to the far reaches of the state, ...and beyond.

My daughter and I ARE SO IN. (Especially cool since she's caught the Longboard bug!)

Brother, when you get a minute, could I get a list of the words that trigger these fits?

Hey. Where are we going? (And what are we doing in a hand-basket?)

Avery is coming down from Titusville for the weekend. She may not have her front teeth but she'll have a big "Shaka" for Ms. Longboard Lisa!

The movie was exceptional.I really enjoyes it! Watching local girls like Lauren Hill and Leah Dawson on the big screen with the skills of a pro was great. Avery was as cute as little surfer girls come... and wonderful see her out with the ladies!

The ladies (young and old) had a great time surfing and suping at the social this morning. We actually had fun waves where we were. I just left and some of them were still out surfing. Don't forget the paddle and potluck barbecue tonight. Chuck is set to cook and the Aquanuts were getting set up. It will be a fun night. Open to everyone!
