Here is a cart that I built out at the shop. Since my local beach (Hightower) is the new hotspt, parking is at a premium. I am ususally hauling kids and beach shelter and toys and got tired of loading in and out of the car. This is my solution. It's all aluminum tubing, and stainless steel hardware and axle. I built one but found the Tig welding to be too time consuming when I didn't like the finished cart. Especially frustrating since I designed the whole thing in CAD first. My solution was connectors that are all CNC machined in my shop. The hitch assembly and axle mounts are CNC machined as well. The slats are solid oak. The basket is just temporary until my netting comes in that will look a lot nicer. The big wheels make it go up and down stairs easy and it cruises across the beach pretty easy in the soft sand.

Great Job!

So when are you going to take custom orders?

Absolutely AMAZING!!!!
I'm not only jealous of your design, but the fact that you have access to a CNC machine....it's been a LONG time since I've gotten to use one.
I use a modified "mule" on my trike, especially for my SUP, which I can't carry down to the water on my own. It disconnects from the trike and I haul it down using a front strap to the water line, detach everything, throw it back up on the beach with my stuff, and then go shove the SUP craft into the water.
I have a plastic basket on my trike for my beach stuff, but your design can hold a tremendous amount quite easily. Have you determined the weight capacity?
What size tires did you use? I'm impressed that they can go up and down stairs- I've been looking for larger hydraulic tires for a bike cart for a while, but to no avail.
I'm with Kombona- when are you taking orders???? No sense in recreating the wheel when you've got it spot on. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Have you considered strips of SeaDek instead of the black insulation to serve as protection for the boards? I have some scraps of it if you want to try it, we use strips of it on the Hawaiian surf racks on my husband's truck on the wood painted with marine paint and you don't have to worry about them degrading or replacing it. Plus, it serves as traction, and the plastic tie downs won't scratch up your board anymore. You can put them also on the inside posts that stick up on the sides so the rails aren't damaged either.
Too Cool!!!!

Upgrade the propulsion unit (mtn bike?)
add a tent to the pile
and I see a very cool
FL road trip in the making.

That is bad ass!

You could definitely start a business selling those around here.

Holy cow, 1 hours and lots of props. Thanks! The Low Down: I own a full CNC machine shop with cnc mills, cnc lathes etc.. so this isn't a stretch to build at all. It's been a bit slow lately so trying to keep guys busy. It's actually a nice relief from the usual close tolerance aerospace type stuff.  I have to build a couple more for my brother (he's a family guy and he and his wife ride SUPs) and a couple of friends.

I've had my kayak on it and it will hold 200 lbs with no problem. There is a ton of thought into this thing and axle placement, wheel size, and where the weight bearing shelf is. (It's not a coincidence that all boat trailers are the same!) The wheels are 26" cruiser wheels. They are considerably more expensive than some 20" plastic ones but they are there for a reason. Without going into a bunch of geometry lessons, you can imagine how they don't get caught on steps.

This is pretty close to how the next ones will look. The shelf on the bottom will be a bit longer and the angled sides will be slightly different. The foam tubing and basket were hurry up items. Next to my business there is a place that builds and sews nets for marine research and they are making the tubing covers and basket net for me. I may use plastic bins but I'm still working out all the little details.

The Sea Dek material is a good suggestion. They are based out of Rockledge I believe, so love to support local people.

As far as orders, the people that have seen this thing are pretty stoked and I am considering selling them. If anyone has brought a product to market, you'll know how much work it can be to work out all the little details of a consumer product. The wheels are freakin expensive so I'm working on sourcing those. There is a bit of tooling to build as well, details, details, details!

Awesome! I have been thinking of a carrier for all my "stuff", but your design is way beyond my brain waves. Very very cool!

That's funny, I've neve seen that before and I looked for a while before striking out on this one and the design is very similar. Anything steel will rust in short order here, especially spending time on the beach. I Tig welded the first one, but unless you're a fab shop, it is a pain in the butt to assemble and weld!

Awesome! Can we get a close up pic of the connection to the bike? Curious how you did that.
