The kid was probably yelling, "Mr. Slater. Mr. Slater, can I have autograph?" To which Flores said, "I'm not Kelly Slater." ------------------------- It's official. I'm bored with this.

Wow, the commentary had me smiling for no good reason... til the kid plopped on the ground. Then I just felt horrible.
Flores could have at least shook his hand or given a high five. He does talk to the kid... which means he must have wanted to give him attention. Coulda just ignored him and walked up the beach... I'm going with the pen theory. He doesn't have to sign autographs. Heck, maybe it was between the quarters and semis- when there isn't much time to mess around.... Maybe he just lost, and didn't wanna deal with anyone? In either of those situations, you have to be fair to the athletes, too. They're still in 'game mode' at that point. Especially if they're advancing and need to prepare for their next heat. And this is far from a perfect example of 'how the pros really are'. If you watch the webcasts from all the events, most of the top pros (winning their heats) stop and take pictures, sign autographs, ect after their heats. |

Probably a scripted set up. You can't believe everything you see. Kinda like those so called "reality shows".
