Just got back from my honeymoon is St. Lucia.  There are waves down there. There were pretty much waves every day outside my balcony.

Stayed at Sandals Grande St. Lucian.  It was pretty killer. I convinced the new wife to let me surf...lol...

Reef break with not the easiest way in and out of the water.  I had to jump off this rock wall while waves were bashing into it.  Then to get out I found a slab rock that I slit the board on and pulled myself up, while the waves were beating me.  only cut my hand a little bit though so not bad.

I was the only one one which made it extra scary.  i didn't really know how deep it was and it looked like the reef was right there, but I'm sure it was deeper than it looked.

The last day was the biggest, some sets coming in head high.  I was catching the mushy shoulder because I was too scared to go deeper into the reef.  It was fun though and I can say I did it now!  There are no surf shops or board rentals and when you ask the locals, they think you're crazy. I got lucky and foudn a kitebaording outfit that let me rent just the surfboard for a couple days.

The wife was kind enough to take some pictures of me too, so I had proof, or in case I got pounded on the rocks....lol

Nice! My brother is going on his honeymoon there in August (not a surfer). Did you guys just hang out in the resort the entire time or did you venture out around the island? They are looking for some ideas.

We did a few excursions but honestly after all the wedding planning crap, you just want to hang low and chill.  Sandals is great becuase they will bus you between the three resorts and we checked out all of them.

You can take a cab to other cities but it's kind of scary if you don't know what you're doing.

Our resort was awesome and we didn't really want to leave.  In the end we wished we had more time to hang at the pool and beach and just chill.

That's cool.

And surfing alone is great.

A lot of people say it isn't wise, but I very much disagree.  I think every surfer should push his limits alone in big surf.  I know your surf wasn't big, but paddling out alone in big conditions is something you remember the rest of your life.

It's like flying solo.

I am outta here.  I'll be back to the NSR in the fall.  Until then, have a nice spring and summer.

Later, dudes.

Was in St Lucia sailing in ~72 just after they built the casueway to PI - but never got to see or surf it - too busy sailing..

Saw a few other breaks when flying over... My brother in law told me about the same break you surfed also - they went there on their honeymoon...

Seems like there was a bit of a sideshore sickness in most of the pic's, but still nice shape.  There is a nice overview shot (taken from the hills the the east) on google earth..

A old surfing friend moved there in the early 80's.  I ran into to him ~15 years ago and he said that he was always looking for someone else to surf with him - and that there were a lot of other breaks around..  Saw some pic's of 'clean' stuff.. Nuff said..

occassional fun surf on many of the islands
TomTube has sailed to many and caught good waves.

I have been lucky enough to catch freak swells on some islands while there for a day on a cruise ship... St Johns, St Vincent, 7 mile beach in Grand Cayman, Barbados and Roatan Island (off Honduras)

Always a treat to find a surprise wave and be able to score a decent board.

jwieland, Stoked for you to find some fun waves while there and many congrats on your marriage

Yes, there are waves there. There are a couple good breaks right by the airport.
