BEFORE.......SOOC (straight out of the camera) shot in RAW...Camera is not making any adjustments (color, sharpening, contrast etc..) just exposure. Of course if I had shot this as Jpeg the camera would have made all kinds of adjustments for me and it would have looked a lot better than this RAW file.

AFTER......This is cropped, textured and the clouds and background are darkened so that the light is exaggerated for effect.

I'd try to avoid cutting into that last "U" pipe with the crop if you can. It looks like you were trying to avoid the inclusion of the wind sock, but that sock is in a very easy place to clone out. Cropping into that pipe impacts the symmetry of the shot (and it really draws my eye to that point). Simply a thought...

Two reasons....

One, I leave the windsock in and it immediately becomes a windsock picture...viewer's eye would be forcefully drawn to it, as it first being red in an almost monochromatic photo and out of context (what does a windsock have to do with a water treatment plant)...(answer: airport next door). No need to clone what I was going to crop anyway.

Secondly and more importantly, by cropping into the middle ground (tanks), the viewer's eye is forced to stay in the fore and middle ground as there is no place for the eye to escape... this is commen referred to as directing the Focal Point or Center of Interest.

This picture was all about the light effect on the pipes and tanks...

What I wanted was a guy with a bright yellow or red hardhat on the walkway.

Cheers
