The Sebastian bridge was completed in 1965.

Check here for stories about Cocoa Beach and the early days of surfing in Brevard County: Trivia

Hey Oldone........I knew Kurt Schneider from my best friend and his younger brother Karl.  Karl and I started surfing together in 71'. Kurt was the rare nice older brother who also had his license and would occasionally drive us to  Sebastian.  What a nice dude.  He had that old tan Doge with the bush button gear selector on the dash I remember. I heard from Karl he got whacked by some drunk ass drivin' fool on a Halloween or New Years Eve can't recall exactly but it was one of the two. I lived at the extreme North end of Patrick just before leaving the base, 3rd house from the end backed up to the Bananna River. Karl would load up his John boat and blast up the river to my house from SB ,tie up on our dock, and we'd run across A1A and hit the beach breaks along the way as far as the O Club. We both attended DeLaura and Satellite too.  Great times!  Been trying to locate any of the Schneider family for quite some time with no luck.  Do you know where they went?

finally found my password.  I have a lot of memories with David, Doug, Chip Sworr, John Vnuk, Bill Satcher,  I would drive us down to the inlet in 1971 when we were juniors at dawn patrol, in winter.  I liked to hang with these guys cause they surfed better than me, so I learned when with them.  DCB was riding a 4'6" asymetrical swallowtail, Chip and I were riding 5'8" Tomb and Reeves.  John Vnuk surfed like Jorge Machuca, insane.  I remember Dcb coming out of the water with blood all over him because he didn't want to wait for the board to dry so he could sand it.  1971 satellite surf contest at spanish house 6-12 ft big north, and Eddie Rochefort getting knocked down by rogue set that broke over jetty and scraped up his back bad.  And yes Garcia, I remember meeting Steve Kabbord surfing that day.  If someone punches you in the nose and its not bleeding, my advise is to become friends with him. Oh yeah, meeting with Dcb and going 140 mph in his mom chevy wagon down to inlet.  Thing was shaking like crazy, filled with empty ho ho wrappers, and never rode with him again.  Where are you Mike Johnson? lots of good memories.

Mike's father was a pastor, they lived in IHB.  What happened to Norbert and Robert Hopper?   Mike Smith and Dick Gabriel ripped IHB.

I graduated from Satellite HS in '70, lived on Glenwood.  Worked at Save Rite grocery store, satisfied the munchies at Royal Castle, Dairy Queen, the restaurant next to the movis theater in the SaveRite/FoodWorld shopping center eating "Manweiler" subs and pumping change into their jukebox-"In The Summertime", "Green Tambourine", etc-and at Lum's on the beach.  Great times, great friends, some of the best memories of my life.

Another SHS '70 grad here. I hung with a lot of guys from Glenwood. Know who Dingpatch is, PM me if you'd like.

Remember when David Judson got picked up by Catri's Hobie Super Surf Team?

The names are all coming back now. Carlie Moore, Rusty Speck, Pat Casey, David Frazier, Donna Winters, all Glenwood folk.

My dad was an Airforce Brat. He graduated from SBHS in 65. They actually lived in one of the litle houses on the beach just south of AFTAC.

He didnt surf having growm up on SAC bases-mostly indland or in Germany.
