Man reading some of these posts reminds me of my early teen years growing up in Satellite Beach. Actually grew up on the very south end of Patrick right back behind the stoplight there now.Went to Sea Park Elem. Delaura Jr. High, and one year at Satellite high. Some of the best times i can remember were there. Many a burger downed at Royal Castle in front of the old Publix , countless hotdogs at the old Lums north of me.Surfed everywhere we could get to from Cocoa to Sebastian. A couple people i did some surfing with back then were Kurt Schnieder, Doug Teed, David Balzerak and many others. Man wish i could relive some of those days again !!! Back when Ron Jons was a little hole in the wall surf shop and not the tourist attraction that it is now.The old sub sandwich shop in the plaza i think where Balsa Bill's is at the other end. Memory maybe not what it once was the 60's.70's, were a little hard on it.

Yeah S.B. was awsome. Doug teed was the first guy that I ever saw getting realllly barreled. Saw him in hawaii before he broke his back at Sunset bh. last I heard he was dealing cards in Vegas. i went to Delora/Sat bh. When I was a super grom lived in lucky clover trailer park, used to talk to old man Canova and talk about piers. His kid Patsey had the shell shop. Who was the guy that made boards next to the chicken place before Bill Balmer took over? What was it virginya fried? sorry, no spell check.

I lived at 105b Ohio St. which was about two blocks directly across A1A from the beach.Yes Doug was definitly a great surfer for that period. I bought a Gordon & Smith board off Doug and surfed it until I wore it out.David Belzerak not sure of the spelling was another great one, definitly the surfer looking kid for that time the bleached out hair and all.Going to jr. high and high school we usually walked down the beach getting there and if it was good enough maybe were late for school many days.

Probably so. I assume Ohio St was in Capehart(?) (You can always tell the new people. There eyes glaze over when you mention Capehart or North Wherry or South Wherry. God, it's been so long, I'm not even sure how to to spell them anymore.)

Yeah, capeheart where my new stingray bike got ripped off. The bike my mom bought me instead of the del cannon I wanted from corys when he was going under. 75$ for anything in the shop. God bless you mom, but i really wanted that board!

Yeah, it was. some of the best waves on the spaced coast too! No surfstars in our area at that time, just hardcore rippers.

The 60's were definitly a time of change, seemed early on we all had the 35 lb 9.5'-10.5' logs evntually going to 7' "V" bottoms, then down to the short bords 5'-6'. Crazy times then.

cool read. I moved to satbe in '79 when my dad got stationed at Patrick. I'm glad I saw a little bit of the past before it all got built up like it is now. I drive back around my old house and don't even recognize it anymore as it was at one time all sandy palmetto scrub. You guys that lived here even earlier must have really felt like trailblazers!

Trailblazers in the truest sense - A lot of the parents had dunebuggies (made from old Detroit car frames, not VWs) that we drove right over the dunes and down the beach looking for turtle eggs. Try that now!

There was a lot to explore in the 60's. From Surfside Elementary south and from Rosata west was undeveloped and mostly palmettos. Right behind Surfside it was tall and thick like a jungle. There was a trail that led thru the middle of it, with narrower trails that branched off. it was pretty spooky as a kid.
