Years ago I remember crawford at the Inlet running his mouth to a guy in the water. This guy had no beef with crawford but crawford trying to be a big bad local picked the worong guy to do that to. This guy pick crawford up and tossed him like little rag doll on the sand bar and after that no one wanted to say anything to this guy. What crawford didn't know is this guy was also golden gloves. Crawford is lucky he only wimperd away witha broken ego.

I have known Jeff since 1970. Never heard this story.  Jeff is a world class athelete / surfer, gives and demands respect, in and out of the water.

I've been surfing around Jeff Crawford since he started heading south in the early 70s. You can say a lot of things about him, but I've never heard anyone accuse him of "giving respect." He is a great surfer and one of the all time loudmouths and wavehogs. His presence never fails to ruin a good day.

Saw G-Paul get his ass handed to him at Spanny--late takeoff on a Big day, lip pitched into the sandbar, came crawling up the beach to a standing ovation!

Was the standing o for getting hammered or for going over the ledge on a gnarly one?

I surfed with Jeff the winter of '72/'73 at the Pipe and he had the most sack of anyone save perhaps Roger Kincaid but I have  heard some very disturbing things about him.  He was always cool with me but his legacy has been besmirched by some of his personal behavior.
