Sam's board on top the VW looks like one of those new radical V-Bottom mini-longboards.

Also noted the classic Aloha surf racks ... and the 19 on the car license tags

I would date this at 1968 thats when the first V bottoms came out Dick Catri had gone over to Hobie and given up Surfboards Hawaii probably in 1966 and Bill Bringhurst became the East coast rep and worked at the shop.  We use to surf across the street alot when we came up the coast I bought my 7'6'' V-bottom there in 1968 with the tye dye v tint.  Actually a horrible board that I feel hurt my progress and I switched to garage boards until Jack Reeves started Tomb and Reeves with his brother Bob and Bill Tomb.

Anyone recognize these mugs? The shop was owned by George Panton, that's his wife Paula on the right. The faces are familiar but I don't remember the names. Photo is about '74 - "75. I didn't realize until recently that George once owned the biggest surf shop in Huntington Beach. I understand he got toasted with to much long board inventory when short boards became the big deal. He pulled up stakes and came to Cocoa Beach.

Eibl's .... you know who I thought they were .... lets see if anyone else names some names.

Yep, Ol George had to declare bankruptcy when he got caught with (literally) 100's of longboards when the short board revolution hit. Which for those that are not aware happened literally within a few months. NO ONE wanted a long board and the manufactures would not give him new short boards on credit .... so he had know where to go except bankruptcy. That started a HATRED of longboards that lasted until .... well prob still does. He absolutely refused to shape a longboard ... even when DCB started (in the ccb area) the movement to "progressive" longboards in the mid 70's. His answer was the infamous "Flying Saucer" model. Which were in the 6 - 7' range ..... but up to 28" wide!!! They actually worked amazingly well!

I rode a Saucer only once. A decent day at "Patrick Pier". To be honest I didn't like it, but that's just me. I never enjoyed riding a Fish either, they were just to squirrely under my feet. I was a single fin swallow tail guy all the way!

Wasn't sure where to post this picture so I thought I would put it here.  Found it while browsing the floridamemory.com website.

The photo is dated 1981.  It has to be Kech.

Thoughts?

I was trying to figure out where this.  End of Minuteman?

Stores on Orlando Ave.  Don't know where though 1952/3

Another mystery surfer.  Someone has to know who this is. He has a very distinct 'look'.  Circa 1977
