And, in my opinion, should still be there. I am glad that he found the Lord and was able to preach to his fellow inmates, quite successfully I've been told. I do not doubt his conversion or his sincerity. But, the man did, cold-bloodedly, kill two women when they were about to expose his fraud. For that, he should serve the rest of his natural days in prison. God will bring him his everlasting salvation if he is sincere in his repentance and has accepted Christ. That is not for man to judge.

Didn't he go to prison for stealing the jewel, not the murders (even though it was obvious he committed those murders)? |

The whole born again thing? Why would a badass murderer/criminal like Murph want to hang out with goodytwoshoes in heaven for eternity when he could hang with satan and do things like he did in life? Greed is evil, and the dude is evil, period. Maybe he charged and "surfed" good, so what. So do a lot of good people, and as a plus they "get it" and really "surf" thru life. Taking the lessons learned from "surfing" and acually applying them to life and the way you treat people. Maybe he was possessed? haha ------------------------- Just Keep Surfin' |

He went to jail for stealing the crown saphire in the mid '60s. I believe that was in New York. After he got out, he started some type of securities scam. Two women who were knowledgeable of it (I think they might have been secretaries) were going to tell on him. Don't know if they had cut a deal or what, but he murdered them and dumped them in the Glades to keep them from implicating him. That is what he was in jail for when he converted and for which he was ultimately paroled.

It was the Star of India he and a couple other guys swiped from the NY Museum of Natural History. He did a couple of years in NY for that one. The murders occurred in Miami the Whisky Creek murders they called them because that was where the bodies were found, Whisky Creek was off the the intercoastal waterway. It was part of some Securities scam as I recall. How he escaped the chair much less paroled beats me.

Murf was murf the surf only becaused he surfed. He was not a good surfer and reallllly brought down the reputation of all surfers as drug crazed hoods. He is someone that took us years to recover from and he should still be behind bars. For years all surfers were like murf to the general puplic. He sucks. |

Looks like he is out of prison and in Cocoa Beach.
"The surf camp includes concerts and seminars, such as Monday night's edition, which included surfing legends such as Dick Catri and "Murph the Surf." On Thursday, beginning at 9 a.m., the camp concludes with a pro-type contest involving every surfer." http://www.floridatoday.com/ar...ab|topnews|text|Sports ------------------------- surf forecast |

Speaking of the 'Star of India'. Last time I was in New York I checked it out in Teddy Roosevelt's museum and was fascinated and captivated learing into it. It is amazing. I looked around for cameras and security...had a fleeting thought...but said no way. I don't steal. But, it is an amazing piece of stone.

An excerpt from the Sun-Sentinel dated Nov 14, 1986...
GARY STEIN November 14, 1986|By GARY STEIN, Staff Columnist ... MURDERS WERE GRISLY Most of the stuff I have read about Murph the Surf in the past few years would tell all about his flamboyant personality and the surfing exploits and all the daring things he did. But you don`t read all that much about the 1967 murder of 24-year-old secretary Terry Rae Frank. Frank`s body was found by Whiskey Creek next to the body of secretary Annelie Mohn, 21. Murphy has always denied committing the murder. ``These bodies were mangled. ... Their abdomens were ripped wide open with knives,`` said Lt. Jim Prigodich of the Hollywood Police Department. Prigodich was the lead investigator of the murders, and helped send Murphy to prison for 17 years. ``There was no remorse in him (at the trial),`` Prigodich said. ``He sat in court and read a book. ``I don`t think he`s served enough time. (Murphy was sentenced to two life terms.) I`ve known people who committed residential burglaries who serve more time than that. Armed robbers serve more time than that.`` Link Whiskey Creek runs parallel to the shoreline midway between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal, and starts just north of the Dania Pier in Dania Beach, FL. It's name derives from when whiskey smugglers during Prohibition would offload their boats onto the beach and workers would drag the cases across the sand and the marshy creek to awaiting speedboats sitting in the river. Your foremost Brevard County expert on Jack Murphy would be Dick Catri, "Murph's" longtime surfing buddy. Edited: 09/21/2011 at 05:49 PM by Streets |

Ask those Morons over at the East Coast Legends Camp. Why Surfer Mags Greatest Surfer of all time is not on the list???????????????? Ask Dick why isn't 10x's ASP World Champion not on the list?????? Maybe because he did not want to be associated with Murders & Fellons???????? ------------------------- |

I believe one of the Hall of Fame requirements is for the surfer to have reached age 40.
If true, that would make Kelly eligble for the class of 2014, since he turns 40 next spring. Up to Kelly if he accepts the nomination, or not. Hey, Balsa Bill ... comment? ------------------------- ... positioning and selection |
