Inflation caused The BIG BANG...look it up!

Hurricanes create that "fight or flight" stress which we will see play out in the next several weeks. It depends on what plant will really flush out with flowers if its a flowering plant. It depends what insect will propagate like crazy as well.
If anyone recalls H. Frances, Jean created a surge on the monarch butterfly population however the entire state had little food source to maintain the increase.

I liked driving by Jerusalem Thorn trees post H. Frances / Jean and seeing them in full bloom -- having driven by those trees prior, I never saw them bloom. It took a "fight or flight" moment for them to flush.

I've noticed all the coconuts have pushed flowers. Lots coming back in my garden. I did the hedgehog trim this weekend.

Our crepe myrtle defoliated. It is already fully leafed out.

Juanulloa completely defolitated and is flushing.

The laurel cherries in the back completely defoliated. They are an aggressive weed that we keep around for the bees and the birds. I assume they'll recover.

Wild coffee looks good.

Gummichama, pineapple guava, pineapples, rosemary, seashore palm, pindo, and weaping bottlebrush showed no effect from the wind or the salt. These are definitely on my list of "hurricane" tolerant plants now.

Mexican Sage burned to the ground. 50% are re-sprouting I think the others are lost. I didn't expect to see a drought tolerant perenial get hurt so bad.

Lavender mixed in the planting with the sage did great.

Blueberries are trying to come back but they really got hammered.

We planted a "Gulf Beauty" red plum in June. We allegedly get enough chill hours on the west side of the lagoon for it to set fruit even though having spathoglottis orchid bloom straight through the 2016/2017 winter makes me doubt that. All the green new growth stems on the east and south side are torched off. The west and north sides are sprouting new leaves. I guess it it going to be a bit lop sided.

I was inspecting the oaks last night looking for signs of life and ended up watching a pair of owls that were hooting it up. I thought one of them was dive bombing me for being too close but it snatched a bat out of the air about 5 feet above my head. That was pretty awesome. I was just about to duck and cover when she flaired and caught the poor bat. The bat was probably orbiting me enjoying my personal cloud of mosquitos.

Firebush (Hamelia patens) is releafing.  Palms are growing like normal.  Pile of freshly shed leaves for pickup tomorrow, just like a normal summer week.  

I got a lot of damage from Irma. Thought all my jaboticaba had died as they lost 90 percent of the leaf and just didn't look like they would recover. But, noticed new growth on all of them this morning. mango flushing. Citrus the same. Croton and other ornamental are waking up also. My live oaks still haven't busted out in new growth but it that is allowing more sun to get into the under-story.

And, I still have about 2 years of raking to do with all the oak debris.

My yard is recovering nicely and yeah for the semi-consistent rain we have gotten since.

Parasites love plants that are flushing out lots of stress-growth.

...that and the mosquito have been really bad... I'm gonna keep an eye on aphids on my jaboticaba. the new growth is so tender on them.

I looked up at my oaks last night. They have really recovered and the new growth is about 2 feet long. Its amazing how plants can recover from taking a beating.

I wish my little live oak had that kind of growth energy.
