The Kesar mango, comes from the state of Gujarat and is possibly the best dessert mango from India.

Spelled also as Pyrie and Pirie, this exceptional Indian mango was 1st brought to the US from Bombay (presently Mumbai) by USDA as early as 1902.

This was developed by Fairchild Garden (Dr. Richard Campbell & Co.) in honor of Angie Whitman, wife of William (Bill) Whitman, a stalwart in the world of rare, tropical and exotic fruits. The high-tech Greenhouse at Fairchild is named after Bill Whitman, The William F. Whitman Tropical Fruit Pavilion where the Whitmans also donated a million dollars.
I bought this Angie mango at the suggestion of Ms Noris Ledesma and Dr Campbell,
the last one left, at the 2014 Jackfruit Festival at Fairchild on 9-13-2014.
This Angie mango (an Edward seedling) from a compact tree had an exceptional taste.

Most of us might be familiar with the 37-acre Fruit and Spice Park in Homestead.
The full name however, of the park is
The Preston B. Bird & Mary Heinlein Fruit & Spice Park
Mary Heinlein was the wife of Herman Heinlein. The Heinlein mango was named after Herman Heinlein.
This is supposedly a seedling of Mulgoba, the mother of almost all the Florida mangoes.

Speaking of Fairchild, I ate my first "fairchild" mango of the season. It is an excellent tasting mango. Deep and complex flavor. Small fruit. Tree stays small.
