This is a mess. I can't see the pundits, coaches and fans ever coming to a consensus. I think espn wants a remarch from last year: Alabama vs Clemson. Every other paramutation is on the table. It's a crazy year.

Agreed.....but one of the most entertaining years.

I think conference champs should get the priority + strength of schedule.  So Ohio State over Alabama for me.

This + Johnnys solution......

8 conference winners = playoffs = real champ

but also renders others bowls as consolation prizes

Two teams from the same conference shouldn't be in the playoffs.

Saban is throwing fits over that very sensible observation. Ohio state and auburn maybe but Clemson and Georgia?

SEC champion with 12-1 record - UGA makes sense to me, Clemson schooled Miami and showed why they are ranked #1.  Oklahoma had a great season - it is the fourth team that is questionable.  Ohio is 10-2 while Alabama 11-1.  With the strength of Alabama's schedule and the fact that the only loss was Auburn at Auburn they get in over Ohio.  But I do agree that two teams from one conference seems odd to me.  I mean what if Alabama wins the next two?  How can you not win your conference but be considered the champion?

I'm OK with multiple teams from the same conference, as long as the selection process is fair (never will be), and you're truly getting the best teams in the nation to compete.

As far as not winning your conference, there are cases where the only conference loss was a fluke, and pollsters are giving preference to which teams are best at the end of the season. Same as any other loss. Early losses have always been easier to overcome than those late in the season.

Playoff system needs at least 8 teams to be fair.

8 would make it fairer.

Agreed Stifry.  CTE affected voters

Look at the Rose Bowl.  USC vs Ohio State?  No that's the Cotton Bowl.

IMO .... the section committee got it correct and the 4 best teams will play for the Championship.

College Football Playoff is just another fake way to determine national 'champion'
