My wife washed then dried my fav board shorts that I had a half bar of wax in the wax pocket. Now it's all melted all over my board shorts and hard. How do I get it out?? Thanks, HB

I was at a party and someone dropped candle wax on a white shag rug.  The host took a towel, put it over the wax, then put a hot iron over the towel.  The wax stuck to the towel and he lifted it right off.

Never mind the board shorts, did wax get in the dryer? If so, based on personal experience with this sort of stuff my advice is to start running.  IF your life is spared get some goo gone and rags, Q-tips, and get to work, follow up with simple green to get the goo gone off, then run some old white clean towels through a few times to make sure you get it all off.  Otherwise getting wax on the Mrs. clothes could be fatal, and yes it is all your fault, don't even go there.  After you get home from the hospital and you're all healed up, for future reference let her know you will take care of the boardies....AMHIK/BTDT/GTTS....

I've been scolded for this on many occasions. I don't have any helpful suggestions, just here for the group therapy.

Place the shorts in a 5 gallon bucket and weight them down.  Pour a lot of boiling water in the bucket and let it cool.  The wax will float to the surface and harden as it cools.  That should get most of the wax out.  MEK will get all the wax out, but the color and fabric might not fair so well.  Enough MEK to do the job would cost as much as new shorts too.

also happened to me year's back.

(have had several friends ruin their board shorts by trying to iron the wax out)

for me, was successful soaking in hottest water possible and hand scrubbing with lotsa dish detergent (breaks down oils) ... several repeats, but totally successful.

good luck!

Thanks for the help and emotional support. This was in Costa on our vacation. The vacation that started with get getting the flu the day before the flight, sucked. Then once I could surf, I got stung all over the back and chest from chopped up jellies that got under my rash guard, still itching. What a trip. But I did catch lots of clean Guiones waves. Right, Guiones that's becoming way over developed by rich people that don't even speak any Spanish.

NEVER put your boardshorts in the dryer, hang them dry, and this will not happen.

I wear those and like them. One complaint. I've had 4 pair and every one had the zipper on the pocket freeze up after awhile. Let me know if that happens to you.

Wandered into the Washington's Birthday sales.  Nordstrom Rack has good prices on Hyperfreaks.
