Just in from the cape Canaveral police dept.

Apparently both are illegal so if you see a turtle that's wrapped up in the dunes and going to die leave it alone.  If you can't find sand for your sandbags and want to take it from the beach don't do it because you'll get arrested.

iI you ever need anything from them you Can count on them to not have it... Unless it's an arrest record and a free ride.

Basically the same people which are trying to bury our reef in satellite want to tell us Its not okay to save sea turtles. Not really the same people but it's still govt.

What's wrong with saving a sea turtle? What's wrong with taking a few buckets of sand which your tax dollars paid for, to prevent your house from flooding? We all pay for beach access in one way or another and we hopefully all care about the environment enough to not purposely damage it.

Why should dumb laws stop us from trying to protect our well being or help out a struggling creature? Its that grey area of law when you get hassled. But would rather feel guilty for letting those turtles die? When the local govt. didn't come through to provide you with the supplies you need, do you just go okay well I guess my house will just be left unboarded and unsandbagged.

Btw all sand which was borrowed has been returned in good shape and has replenished a few dunes.

I did start this topic to get an opinion, but at the same time isn't important that we all know what the laws are? Probably would be better in the NPR or politics forum.

Didn't take sand but did save sea turtles after the storm. Guilty as charged and will do it again after the next storm.

the issue is when people grab healthy turtles that are running to the beach. that should be and forever will be illegal.

I have been informed that it's actually not illegal to touch the turtles as long as you are not harming or harrassing them. Aiding a seaturtle is allowed. However, whether or not you will still get hassled is another issue.

The floorboard of my jeep is full of stolen sand. If they want to vacuum it out for me, they can have it back.

The problem is people are assholes.

How can you tell if someone is saving a turtle or taking it home for their aquarium? No one would do that right?

How about sand? Somebody takes their wheel barrel up to the beach and takes some. Not too bad. Next guy fills his pick up. Next guy gets a front end loader and piles it in front of his oceanfront home. You can't have it half way.

People are assholes.

Laws protect us from assholes.
