Taking a 4 day trip to Costa Rica, will be in the Jaco/Playa Hermosa area. Instead of bringing a board Im thinking of buying one down there Waves are supposed to be macking so I'll be looking for a big wave board in OK shape, will probably end up breaking it in overhead macking hermosa.

Could anyone recommend best surf shops in that area/ best place to grab a board?

Probably gonna buy one the night i fly in and possibly pack my boarbag and bring it back, or give it to a local (or break it in half, hopefully, on an overhead bomb)

Thanks for any info!

You will find what you need in Jaco. There are a few in town with tons of boards. You might want to ask them if they will buy a board from you and see what they will pay. The idea is that you want to buy the board and sell it back, which in theory should be cheaper than renting.

Check out Carton or Chuck's WOW. Have bought and sold back to both. Good selections also.

Agree on Carton. Had a good experience with him.

Buddy broke his board, bought one there agreeing it would be bought back at a set price, met us there after hours at the appointed time for the exchange of board and cash.

Swell looks to hit Sunday , double over head , then hold into mid week. Take care and have fun. have a look at Boca Barranca on Monday when the beach maxs out , the swell angle is a good one for this place

you may as well pass up Hermosa.  Boca Barranca, or some other not so popular spots will be worth it. Even Caldera's little boca will be punchy.

Second to Cartons.. But as said, skip Playa hermosa especially if it's going to be that big.

If you do wind up surfing DOH Hermosa, make sure you get or take a good leash!

thanks for the recommendations on the shops!

and as far as the swell height it should be good, swell direction is SSW which is favorable, hermosa will handle it especially with hightide itl be blowout barrels.

im frothing.

I should have mentioned carton. He's a good dude to meet anyway.
