So I'll start it, Has the new reef project helped/hurt the waves? Are those concreate rocks in place yet? Seems like more pics with that barge in the back ground, just saying |

Coincidental. The people-photos starting happening well before the barge.

That place has been doing well lately. Don't think you can say it is a coincidence quite yet. ------------------------- I :heart; Q |

That place has been doing well lately. Don't think you can say it is a coincidence quite yet. IMO - No coicidence, It has been breaking slightly better since early this year or so. (Or other spots have been really poor and this spot hasn't changed. Making it the new hot spot....) Though I have on certain swells gotten a little "bounce off the barge". ------------------------- Time and tide wait for no one..... |

Unlikely that a few chuncks of concrete in 15 foot water will have any effect on the surf at all.

All I can tell you is that I usually surf right down the beach from there and it is breaking better there than the stretches nearby. Don't know the reason, but it is happening. ------------------------- I :heart; Q |

One could argue you're only noticing the pictures are there now because there's the recognizable barge in the background. Whereas before it wasn't recognizable in photos. Also, I think a lot of people surf there because there's always photographers there. and surf school so it's familiar. Personally I love seeing all the groms out there

It's been good for a long time. The only thing that the barge did was make the crowd worse. Hopefully the barge will take the crowd with it. I am over all the people.

Wg is right...those rocks/pyramids are well below the wave base...which is where our small waves have zero energy...it would have to be a mighty big swell for those things to make the surf better

Low tide at 8' wave height, you may see it start to feel it. Not to say it won't happen, but it is not a common occurance. |

Seems reasonable to me that the rock piles will have some affect on sandbars and their formation. But it could take some more significant wave action and or long shore current to produce that affect, and just what that long term affect will be is anyones guess |

Technically...an typical 8 sec period swell will "feel bottom" around 163ft(8x8x2.56) ... so there would be some effect. I would think it depends more on how much area the reefs take up. If it's really skinny....probably not a huge change in the wave, but if it's wider the wave will slow down and may become more 'peaky' behind it as it hits the inside sand bar. ------------------------- WPTV NewsChannel5/Fox 29 Snapchat: Surfnweatherman |

They did a similar dump in Vero. Never seen any effect.
