Or a brain the size of a pencil eraser. I guess he has to get an adrenaline fix when it's flat.

It would be interesting to know if Great Whites are known to attack humans when the human is easily visible.

From what I've always read, Great Whites sneak up on people, thinking they are a sea lion resting on something (surfboard), take a bite, apologize, and then swim away.

Of course, if you chum the water you mess with the shark's head, but I doubt they'd do anything that dumb when freediving with them.  Some bozos do it with cages, and the sharks bite the cage.

Anyway, maybe it's not a dangerous as it looks.

But it sure would be a rush (if you survived).

Healy doesn't look that much different than a seal with those big fins on. I would suspect that an apex predator like that would still attack or bite out of curiousity or instinct. I personally wouldn't want to be in the water to test that theory out.

My guess is that it is every bit as dangerous as it looks if not more.

Seems like the guy is a full on adrenalin junky....I guess risk taking behavior can be a pretty addictive drug for some....not knocking it....to each their own....but he could have got just as close in a cage.

i suspect the shark just had lunch prior to the foto shoot, was not a hungry diva, and wanted to play around. FK should try this.

His FB page has some amazing stuff. Retrieving the NatGeo critter cam off a 15 ft Great White takes the cake though. He's the poster child for the term waterman, and he didn't get there by eatin tomatoes.

Yea, if you read the article he doesn't even have the spear gun loaded!!

He says he was riding them down 60 ft then letting go and heading up and that's when he would worry about the smaller, more aggressive ones taking him out. He does know that he's in their domain and they could take him out anytime they wanted.

FWIW, I wathched about 4 White Sharks eat off of a dead whale while in Australia. I was on a 30 ft boat and when an 18 ft shark swims right under the boat I nearly filled my shorts. Can't imagine being in the water. Open ocean swimming and snorkeling makes me feel like I'm made of stone and could sink any moment. This dude is mental.

And Bob, I don't think FK has enough courage to leave the keyboard.

I've seen others who do this hang out with Hammer heads and Whites pretty heavy stuff but the way Healy makes it sound he's kinda intune with it but so was the Croc Hunter/Steve Irwin but hey I'm sittin behind a desk and surfing 3-4ft waves what do I know.... just that they live their lives on a different level...GOD BLESS THEM!!
