The canon 100mm 2.8 lens is what most photographers with canon cameras use to take macro images. It can also be used to take good portraits as long as you have a relatively close range with respect to the subject. It is one of the best macro lens out there. You can go super, super close by adding inexpensive extension tubes. It's worth the price. As always, if you want to move to something else, it holds a very good resale value.
