Made the paddle out just after sunrise and put a small weakfish on and let him swim off while I tried to get another bait. No more than two minutes went by and I looked back and saw this guy airborne and thought, cool my buddy is hooked up. He jumped again and then I realized my braid was flying off the reel. I'd never seen one jump like that before setting the hook. Switched poles, set the hook and off we go. Big fun

great fish, did you see them actively rolling or was it just blind luck?

I am a little north of you and acres of pogies off Ormond beach last weekend but water was super cold so no tarps...

Awesome pick too!

Thanks Panda! We stopped at a few spots before we put in. Saw some action from the beach but after that it was just by chance that he hit the bait. It's alot of luck, I got skunked quite a few times (not including sharks) this year. Go enough and eventually you'll score. I've found the type of bait makes no difference, I've got tarpon on almost everything, they don't discriminate. Good luck!

Cool, I have been running and gunning in the truck with kayaks and finding tons of bait but not many tarpon yet up here in NE FL.

That thing is a jumbo, great catch!

Nice!

I haven't seen many in the Cocoa Beach area in the last few weeks. I imagine the mullet run will change all that.

NICE...  good stuff

Last summer I got one about that size from my kayak also..... on an artificial "swimmer" lure (looked just like a pogy).... on 20# test on a 30yr old reel

I didn't get to "boat" him for the photo like that.... he busted out of the water literally a foot from kayak as I grabbed the leader and "Palm Beach released" himself

When hungry they will hit about anything. Got a #125 on a pink banana jig while jigging for pompano a few years ago.... was not expecting that to happen at all.

Nice fish.

What was it like when they tarpon was dragging you around!?! Were you concerned at all about sharks chasing it down? What tackle were you using and how long did it take to land?
