I was working on the Kissimmee River and became disoriented, shaky and slightly nauseous. The issues cleared - for the most part - when I got into the car with the ac on.

I searched the net, but the symptoms of classic blue/green exposure don't really fit the bill. Has anyone ever had a first hand interaction with algae (Red Tide excluded)?

I used to do wetlands mitigation work and I've been in lots of foul water. My first question for you would be- if you were in the water, were there elephant ears around?  Usually elephant ears cause itching, increased heart rate, shaking, etc.

Pfiesteria?

I have no personal experience, just read the book.  And there was that one night in the Holiday Inn...

If it was pfiesteria, it would probably be new for the Kissimmee and worth knowing.

edit:  should add that I've worked in and around blooms like Microcystis but have never experience any symptoms

Thanks Tom, that sounds pretty spot on.

I have notified a manager at the SFWMD.

Panda, I do the tick check on a regular basis and I'm free.

Hope you are well and not having further symptoms.

There's a good book, true story, on the subject if you're interested:
