Hi. I'm 71 years old and I still surf in the Cocoa Beach/Patrick AFB area. But I must say, it's not getting any easier and the lack of consistent waves doesn't allow me the regular paddle-outs needed to juice what remaining mojo I still have. Where would any of you recommend I go (and when) for good, fun, consistent 2-4 Ft waves that I can practice on for about 3 weeks straight? I'm hoping that I can regain my groove, or a reasonable facsimile, with that kind of consistent activity on rideable waves. I'm obviously thinking Costa, but, man, I'm open to ALL suggestions - Cali, Mexico, you name it!. Mahalo!

If you don't want to wear a wetsuit, my first choice is Costa Rica for a variety of breaks that work at different tides. But for a consistent right point break, I love K-Lodge at K-59 in El Salvador. Send me a PM and I'll get ya hooked up.

lol. we don't call Guioness "old man's" for nothing. swell hits, you move to the headlands either north or south and you are sliding again. onshore with swell hits, you move to playa pelada and you're back in the groove again. |

Saladita, MX. Fly into Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo then get a Taxi to La Saladita. Also called reverse Malibu. Corky Carrol lives there.

Costa Rica is a pretty easy place to go and pretty much guaranteed that size for you. If it gets too big you can always hide in a smaller cove break, or point.

Haha, walter is that you? I love k59 too, but it's likely not this dude's answer. Doubt he wants to fiddle with 15 brazzos at the peak, which seems the norm these days even at k61. Also in our summer that place is more like a consistent 4-6. Maybe in our winter, tho. Not as crowded and fun. ------------------------- |

Oahu hasn't had a good summer in a few years , this summer looks bad as well. The storms have been sending all the waves towards the America's for a while now .

True , but that a long way to go for such a small wave . Even longboarding Three's all day gets boring after a while. I'm not sure when the West side last held a South swell .

Please try again on the PM, as my mailbox may have been full. Yes, K59 can have 20 guys on it (maybe 8 brazzos), but it is nearly empty at dawn and the last two times at K61 there was no one out with overhead waves coming through.
As for flights to Costa Rica, check out Southwest.com as well as Kayak. Jet Blue flies boards for $50 each way, as does Copa. Southwest is $75 each way for 2 boards in a bag. ------------------------- http://www.crsurf.com ~ CR Surf Travel Company http://www.vacationsbygreg.com Instagram - @crsurf |

I would personally go to Nicaragua, popoyo has a couple really good waves with offshore winds almost everyday, very very consistent. It can get pretty solid but there is a cove that cuts the swell size in half and turns into a fun left point. It is moderately crowded but nothing to crazy. Early in the morning it can be just you and a couple people. Definitely not a party location but if you're looking for a surf retreat and just get away and surf for a few weeks I would say that's your best bet. Check out Mag rock. The only thing about Nica is that it still isn't as developed as some of the other countries so you'll just want to have your taxi Pre arranged to get you from the airport. I would not reccomend just hopping in a taxi etc... Edited: 05/22/2018 at 10:41 AM by BrendanF321 |

Wait, isn't there another thread talking about how they just shut down the US EMBASY in Nicaragua like last week\people are getting shot in the streets during riots and what not? This may NOT be the best choice homie.
Even though I can't lie you had me at "It can get pretty solid but there is a cove that cuts the swell size in half and turns into a fun left point." Kinda sounds like a goofy footers dream wave! lol ------------------------- SK8 AND DESTROY |
